recommended is, i think 255 on the width but now it depends on the profile height you want as well...
and will a 9.0 wheel width with a +45mm offset fit on your ride? i think you may need major fender rolling...

Careful, I think I read somewhere that the Enkei PF01 and/or RPF01 doesn't clear the '08 Brembos on your car; very bulky calipers. BUT, I did see that Tire Rack lists RPF01s in 18x8.5 with a +45 offset so that may be your ticket.
Only saying that Tire Rack puts alot of verification/validation effort into their wheel recommendations based on manual or CAD fitment.
Fender rolling may be required depending on your drop and tire selection. More negative camber (top leaning inward) may not require as much of a roll. A wider tire (255, 265, etc.) may require a roll.
If I were you get with some '08 STi owners on 3GWRX.com or iwsti forum to get their input and experience to help you out. They've done every combination I'm sure and don't forget reputable wheel sellers like Tire Rack. Use your resources and you should be able to get a pretty decent answer/understanding of what will or won't work. Remember, just because a wheel has the correct bolt pattern, offset, and width doesn't necessarily mean that the rim and spoke profile will clear your brakes, suspension, and center bore (hub). Ask MANY questions from people who are running the combination you're after so you can learn from their mistakes and experiences. Too bad we don't have a wheel shop on island that has a wide variety to try on to be certain.
For what it's worth, I think George & Sons has a fender rolling tool and they charge for this service. I'll see if there are any other resources you can try and can verify your question/fitment. Otherwise, 18x9 on your beast will look awesome and it sounds like you're going forged light-weight....VERY nice
