Re: 2009 Monsoon Race Series
ceo1 wrote:I'd love to Darrell but here's the dilemma. I have my 18" Rota's which have Nankangs, I don't mind using these tires because I have already used em. Problem is it will place me in ST because of it.
My stock rims are fitted with Nankangs as well. They are almost brand new so I plan to sell them to partially fund my new tires. If I race em, they will not be worth as much as now, especially since they wear real fast.
Finally, if I do join in ST class, and use up the Nankangs on the Rota's I will need new tires by the end of the season (cruising tires). This will cost me double since I will still get tires for my stocks (race tires). Basically, my funds are pretty dry so this is not a great option.
So, does anyone wanna donate funds for tires? Hehehe...
Tires will last you 1.5 years. If you want to be in stock class use your stock rim/tires if you want to be in ST use the 18" tire/rim combo.

Re: 2009 Monsoon Race Series
Maybe 3pm onwards...since all the courses in the moonsoon races start at the same place with the slaloms, we can practice our launch and be fast at the slaloms all the way thru the first right turn. Ed if you can bring your stop watch kindly do so that we can record our times and see if there are improvements. Just a simple setup then we can take turns timing each other. We can also do the farthest most part the wide semi circle entering the slaloms going to the finish line.
About the fight, I don't know if there are any bars showing them. I guess, we just have to do pay per view. Or, let me call hooters right now and find out if they are going to show the fight.

Re: 2009 Monsoon Race Series
No practice was made because when I got there the tracks was being used by the motobikes moto x'ing. Then at 3:30 track was setup for drifting so wasn't able to do practice runs. Kevin and Darrel came out so we just watched the drifters in action. Maybe we'll have better luck next time.

Re: 2009 Monsoon Race Series
I ended up getting the same tires as Jesse (Dunlop Direzza Z1) for my stock 17 rims. I texted him to ask what other tires he was telling me to get but he wasn't back yet. Turns out he was recommending the Khumo Ecsta MX's.
I was reading up on all the tires. The top rated were the Dunlop's, Khumo MX and XS and Bridgesone RE-11 and RE070. The Dunlop and Khumo's were almost exact same price ($114-$117 for 215/45/R17). Bridgestones were about $60 more.
Based on reviews, the Bridgestones were a bit better but not by much. The Z1's and the XS were very close followed by the MX. According to the reviews the XS (newer model than the MX) outperforms the MX so it was between the Z1's and XS. Only thing that stopped me on the XS was that many of the reviews said that peformance wasn't as great on wet surfaces.
In the end I wanted to try the XS so we have something to compare within the club but I decided to go with something proven for now. Jesse is happy with his tires and Brian said he felt a huge difference so I stuck to the Z1's. About a dollar or two less per tire than the XS's. Bridgestones were way outta my budget. I didn't wanna gamble on my first set.
Bottom line I spent $658 including shipping for Dunlop Direzza Z1 215/45/R17's. I opted for the faster (1-2 week) shipping $189. I will try the XS next time.

Re: 2009 Monsoon Race Series
Solid...I was thinking bout the RE-11's...But there is a local distributor for Kumo's here on Guam (Behind ITC bldg.), So may re-condider and go with the Kumo's...Hopefully you get them in soon and mounted...Gaining the 500 miles is gonna be fun! If they do not come in on time for rd. 2 of the Monsoon, please consider Darells offer, it would be nice to see you run! If not, your cheering (and brewskis) are always welcomed....
Re: 2009 Monsoon Race Series
That's triple J Commercial tire and they don't have any of the Khumo MX or XS. They don't even really plan to bring them in. Well they did bring in a few but sold em and they don't plan to order more for a while. The boss over there (really cool Germanish dude ) is a nice guy but kinda crappy salesman. He won't bring any in unless we make a big order.
He said that if the club decides to do a group order he will help us out (like 10 sets or something). But for a set of 4... You're SOL basically. He is the guy I told you about who raced in Macau and Smoking Wheels when they had the uphill climb at Ritidian we're talking 1970's. Good guy for info though.
I checked the price though and it might be a bit cheaper or at least the same price if you ordered at Tire Rack. Prollem will be mounting and balancing will cost you when they get here.
